Project details

What we need
  • Document outlining Organization’s or a specific program’s strengths and weaknesses as well as potential opportunities and threats
Additional details

We are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. We want to begin a strategic planning process to chart the next phase of the organization. We need to do an organizational assessment (SWOT) before deciding next steps in the process. If possible, we would like to complete the SWOT analysis before our board retreat on Nov 11, 2023.

What we have in place
  • We recently completed a capacity building campaign and have the materials related to that. We also have recently redesigned our website which provides extensive information about our work. We also have program data financial reports, yearly audits, grant proposals and grant reports that describe our work and include some metrics. We do not have a market analysis of human rights organizations.
How this will help
This project will save us $7,888 , allowing us to focus more resources on program work. We leverage our cash budget 4 to 10 times in our various programs. Saving approximately $8,000 will allow us to leverage $32,000 to $80,000 in human rights work.

We have completed a period of planned growth coming out of the pandemic. We have re-engaged former board staff and volunteers in our programming throughout our anniversary year. We also face unprecedented challenges in protecting human rights. It is a perfect time to take stock in where we are and chart where we want to go.

Our mission

The mission of The Advocates for Human Rights is to implement international human rights standards to promote civil society and reinforce the rule of law. By involving volunteers in research, education, and advocacy, we build broad constituencies in the United States and select global communities.

What we do

The Advocates for Human Rights believes that each one of us has a part to play in defending human rights. By engaging volunteers in hands-on human rights work, The Advocates not only accomplishes critical research and advocacy, we transform volunteers into advocates for human rights.

The Advocates works on two levels: the systemic level and the individual direct services level. The Advocates' unique approach grounds policy work in the lived experiences of our partners and clients. When our clients experience injustice, we help them and advocate to change the systems that perpetuate those injustices. When our partners report barriers to safety and security, we identify the gaps in legal protections and develop solutions.

Rooted in deep expertise and strong relationships, The Advocates works in our home community and in partnerships around the globe to address some of the most intractable human rights issues.
