Project details

What we need
  • Document outlining relationship of board to your organization and metrics of board success
  • Document outlining scope of roles within board, including empty seats if applicable
What we have in place
  • We currently have a small Board (7) who wants to help but needs guidance, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have Individual Board roles and outdated bylaws, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $10,732 , allowing us to match 23 newly diagnosed kids with cancer with their inspirational role models.

Our organization is ready for large-scale growth, but our staff capacity is full. Our Board wants to help, but hasn't found their place to do so. We need help updating Board roles/responsibilities (and likely our bylaws), as well as communicating those responsibilities effectively and conducting performance reviews. With that help, we'll be poised to take a significant step towards sustainability and expansion.

Our mission

Connecting Champions is a mentoring nonprofit for kids with cancer, centered around the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

What we do

Whatever our kids want to be -- a ballerina, a train conductor, a video game designer, a ghosthunter, and so many others -- we find a local role model who can be a friend throughout the cancer journey.

Everything we do is research-based and outcomes-driven, built to help kids reach the developmental milestones they should be reaching had they not been so sick. We're adding a child development approach to healthcare, and we're making waves in the field of pediatric oncology. In 2019, we're preparing for national expansion.

Our friendships help families cope better, young ones make their first friends, and teens overcome depression during the cancer journey. Through our historic partnership with UPMC Children's Hospital, 90% of newly diagnosed children in our region are referred to Connecting Champions and we've paired kids with 34 different professions.
