Project details

What we need
  • A compilation of research on a specific topic (e.g. industry best practices, literature review, media contacts, industry trends, etc.) including a list of sources
  • Recommendations on areas for further exploration/research
  • Note: This project is not designed to be used for prospect or grant research
Additional details

Research an innovative Child Protection strategy. Our 100 Fellows work with more than 100,000 kids across 405 schools. That's a lot of welfare to protect and support! Our team does not manage teachers, headteachers, or government officials, but we are passionate and committed advocates for the rights of the children we enroll in school, and teach to read and do basic math. Help us build a strategy that guides our team's response, and shifts attitudes to child protection across Uganda!

What we have in place
  • We currently have a series of child protection training modules we use, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have staff who can walk you through our current context, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,239 , allowing us to keep a Building Tomorrow Fellow in the field for almost two full school terms. Fellows are our key change-makers and catalysts for things like community support for child protection.

Children in rural areas of Uganda can be a highly marginalized group. Building Tomorrow insists on community ownership for our interventions, and without actual authority over the police, teachers, and other officials, we must win hearts, minds, and commitment. Helping communities keep children safe from transactional sex, being victims of coercive power dynamics, emotional and physical abuse, and the like are essential for the next generation of Ugandans to thrive.

Our mission

Building Tomorrow galvanizes communities to support thriving schools in underserved areas.

What we do

Building Tomorrow improves access to child-friendly, community-supported schools by providing an inclusive, quality education for underserved children in East Africa. Through our Thriving Schools program, we deploy Building Tomorrow Fellows who recruit and train Community Education Volunteers, together bringing out-of-school children into the classroom while working with school leadership to ensure access to a quality, inclusive school environment. We also work hand-in-hand with local communities, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education to construct new primary schools where no formal primary school exists.
