Employee Handbook
Employee Handbook
Project details
What we need
- Audit of existing Employee Handbook, or internal communications regarding employment policies
- Edit or creation of a new Employee Handbook, which may include any of the following: Standards of Conduct, Work Schedules, Leave Policies, Termination Policies, Safety and Security, Anti-Discrimination policies, Compensation and Benefits policies, any Non-Disclosure Agreements or Conflict of Interest statements that may apply, and any other pertinent information
What we have in place
- We currently have our own Employee Handbook, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have records of all previous and current HR related files, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $2,430 , allowing us to to allot our funds to better serve OCCUR's mission to serve Oakland's low-income community.
This project is essential because as a non-profit with limited funding, having a HR person onsite is not always in the budget. In addition to being a nonprofit, if there is an audit violation there a can be fees associated.

OCCUR's founding members' objective for this organization was to confront the issues relating to emerging poverty, urban blight and increased migration by populations of color. 60 years later, OCCUR now serves as a role as an intermediary and public service policy organization, OCCUR provides critical services and programs in community technology, nonprofit capacity building, consumer education and civic engagement.
Testimonials
Joshua was such a pleasure to work with. Our small local organization was seeking HR assistance and Josh's HR expertise suited our needs. We would recommend and work with Josh again as he was a prompt, patient, and professional Catchafire volunteer. Thank you for your assistance!
I had the opportunity to work with Davina at OCCUR for this project. Davina provided an incredible starting point which made making updates fairly easy and straightforward. She was receptive to feedback, especially around policy that may no longer make sense in California as well as handbook phrasing that might be a bit 'safer' for the org to use. I also appreciated the clarity we communicated over volunteer effort as this project moved from updating a manual towards approval. Once the updates, recommendations, and comments had been made, the real work rested in Board approval and input. Rather than have this project continue on with minimal involvement from myself (the volunteer), we decided to close it and I offered my support for any one-off questions that may come up during approvals. Thanks Davina and OCCUR for this project opportunity.
