What we need

We would love to work with someone on improving our website's SEO to better reach our wide audience of farmers, eaters and supporters of sustainable food and farming. Since we launched the site many years ago, much has changed online, and we need to, too!

In addition to our U.S./Canadian website, we're also in the UK and South Africa, so this project could start with the U.S./Canadian site only or all three depending on volunteer preference. Thanks and look forward to working with you!

What we have in place
  • We currently have a draft list of brainstormed keywords, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a team that knows the back of our website well, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,767 , allowing us to help more farms use certified sustainable practices (and help people find them!), and share reliable information about food and farming with farmers, eaters, businesses, policymakers & more.

People are hungry for solid information about their food choices, but much of the information out there is misleading, or marketing spin trying to sell food that has no sustainability credentials. For people to support genuinely sustainable farming systems, they need to 1) know which foods/brands are proven to be sustainable and 2) know how to find them. Between our label guides and directory, we can help--but people have to find us first! This is where SEO comes in and is crucial to our goals.

Milestone 1: Site Content Audit
  • Professional assesses on-site elements including URL structures, navigation, internal links, use of keywords and general copy
  • Professional creates list of every page in a spreadsheet with notes and recommendations for improvement

Milestone 2: Technical Audit
  • Professional assesses technical site elements that affect crawlability like sitemap, use of HTTPS, HTML structure, site speed, and presence of 404 or server errors
  • Professional provides recommendations to improve search engine indexing

Milestone 3: Off-Site Link Audit
  • Professional uses a free tool (like Moz ) to assess presence and state of backlinks and anchor text
  • Professional provides recommendations to improve domain and page authority
