Mission

The Endangered Species Coalition is a national network of hundreds of organizations working to protect our nation’s disappearing wildlife and last remaining wild places. Through education, outreach and citizen involvement, we work to protect endangered species and the special places where they live.

What We Do

Protecting Endangered Species From the Sixth Great Extinction
The Endangered Species Coalition fights to protect the Endangered Species Act. As we face a human-caused, sixth great wave of extinction, this Act is our nation's safety net for fish, plants and wildlife. We make sure citizens relay their messages around love of wildlife loud and clear to those in power.

Stand for Wolves
Beautiful, strong and wild, America’s gray wolves once ranged across most of the United States. But, centuries of hunting, trapping and poisoning sought to eliminate wolves from the American landscape. Today, thanks to the safety net of the Endangered Species Act, wolves finally began to recover in wild places. However, policies at the federal and state level are stacked against wolves. The Endangered Species Coalition is advocating for stronger protections for wolves and other top predators across the country.

Vanishing: American Species Your Children May Never See
In the midst of the sixth greatest wave of extinction—a tragedy for wildlife and humans—there isn’t a sense of urgency about this catastrophe. The Endangered Species Coalition is highlighting the threat of biodiversity loss and the things we stand to lose. We are focusing on iconic American species that our children may not see in their lifetimes, such as monarch butterflies, native bumblebees, etc., to raise alarm bells, engage the public, and advocate for solutions.

Endangered Species Day
Each year on the third Friday of May, hundreds of Endangered Species Day events are held across the country to celebrate the passage of the Endangered Species Act. Thousands of volunteers have participated in activities such as rescue missions for endangered Coho Salmon, habitat restoration projects for the New England cottontail, naturalist-led hikes to search for the endangered Tidewater Goby (a nest-building fish), the release of rehabilitated sea turtles in South Carolina, and much more. www.EndangeredSpeciesDay.org
